How To Quickly Make Money With Your Website?

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Quickly making money with a website is the dream of all new online marketers but can it be done and if so how is it done. This article tells what I did in order to start making money in less than 3 weeks with a brand new website in the competitive insurance industry.

The first step I took was to decide on a particular industry. Unlike many of the experts that advocate selecting a niche in order to exploit it, I choose the subjects for my websites based on the popularity of the subject matter in terms of consumer interest and of course profitability. For this particular website I chose to concentrate on insurance. This subject is very competitive and can be difficult to score well on in the search engines but to be honest that wasn’t my goal. Instead for every website I make I focus on having it make between $500 and $1000 within 6 months. The methods I use have made it possible to achieve this standard on 3 previous websites so I felt like I could do the same with insurance.

I want to set the story straight so it is only fair that I disclose the software platform that I use to make my websites. I currently make my websites using Site Build It. The features for this program are to numerous to mention in this article and I don’t want to focus on them here. I believe that you can still achieve a profitable website within a short timeframe using other software just not as fast as when using SBI.

As I stated earlier I set my sites on the insurance industry because the keyword bids are fairly high for advertisers of insurance products. You can find this type of information on Overture or if you have a Google Adwords account. Again I won’t go into specifics on how to do that research as it has been covered by other webmasters in better detail then I could describe.

I decided to set my website up to include all areas of insurance. With that in mind I created web pages for car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, health insurance and several other insurance categories. After setting up my main categories I concentrated on making web pages that point to the main category. For instance if my main category is car insurance and I have a web page built for it then I would make other pages such as California car insurance which point back to my main page on car insurance.

Here’s the tricky part normally I spend around 2 hours a night working on my website. That may sound like a lot of time to some people but I assure you, if you want to succeed you will find the time. Trust me ? I work 13-14 hours a day at my main job, have 2 children under the age of 4 and am finishing up work on my Master’s degree. If I can find 2 extra hours a day anybody can. Use the desire to someday be your own boss and have enough money to be comfortable as your motivation to make it happen.

Typically what I do during that two hours includes the following: Make at least 1 or 2 new insurance web pages for my website, write 2 new articles and submit them to other websites that accept articles and try to find 2-3 new link exchange partners. The key piece that has allowed me to quickly make money on my websites in less then 3 weeks involves the articles. Every article I write links back to my website with a link in my signature box. The impact that 20 or more articles linking back to a website become evident when the website starts making money due to the articles.

The best technique I have found to quickly make money online is to use Google Adsense on your web pages. The ads generated by the Google code along with any insurance merchants you affiliate with will be the cornerstone of your money making website. The initial amount of money a website will make may not be much in the first few months but the ability to make money in less then 3 weeks is a fantastic motivator which allows a webmaster to stay focused in order to continue to work on a website until the larger dollar amounts start rolling in. From my experiences this usually starts happening around the 6 month mark.

The above article is rather sketchy on specifics but it truly is the format I follow for all of my websites and I continue to make money very quickly which soon grows to a sizeable amount within 6 months.

9 Keys to an Effective Website

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Many small companies choose not to invest in a professionally designed website, although a well-designed Web site may raise the company’s level of professionalism and exposure ? AND drive business and sales!

Make sure your website is working for you with the following characteristics:

Usability enables your users to get the most out of your site. This means that the site’s navigation is consistent, clear and easy to follow; forms and links are in working order; and the information on the site is current and answers incoming clients’ potential questions.

Findable: If people can’t find you, then they won’t buy from you. Make sure your pages have text coded in HTML instead of embedded in the graphics, so that search engines can read it. Put ALT tags on the images you do have ? search engines look at these, and they can improve your rankings. Include META tags in your code and submit them to at least the major search engines. You can do this for free ? ask me how! Finally, find some online directories where your site would be a fit and add your site to those directories. This is one more way potential clients can find your site; having directories and other sites linked to yours can also increase your ranking in the search engines.

Legible fonts, sized for easy reading on different platforms and browsers. Also, make sure your font is either significantly lighter or darker than your background color or pattern, so that your site is readable for colorblind people, too. If you’re using a background pattern, make sure that it doesn’t interfere with the text.

Cleanly designed, with graphics that enhance the website’s message, instead of detracting from it. This applies to animations as well, which should be designed with a purpose.

Reinforces and repeats elements of your brand image, building upon the design of your corporate logo and other materials and repeating your company’s message. Consistency of your company’s brand is important across all media.

High-quality graphics that are optimized and saved in the correct format for their content ? JPEG format should be used for gradients or photos, and GIF format should be used for images with areas of solid color.

Fast loading: Optimizing your graphics and writing clean code will ensure that your users only wait a minimal amount of time for the page to come up. If people don’t see your site quickly, they’re more likely to click away from it or not return in the future.

Cross-platform compatible: Make sure that your site looks the same on PC and Macintosh systems, and on Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla and all the other browsers ? that way, you’re not missing any of your audience! You’ll also want to make sure that the site looks equally as good in older versions of the browsers ? not everyone updates their browser software when new versions come out.

Clean code will load fast! Well-written code is also less likely to load incorrectly in different browsers. Clean code will also enable other web designers to pick up the maintenance of your site easily if you decide to transfer those responsibilities to a new designer.

A well-designed website works as a qualifying agent and also provides information 24/7 about your business to all your potential clients. It is a vital resource and marketing tool for doing business in today’s global marketplace.

The Best Way To Promote Your Website, or Anything Else!

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Have you ever wondered how some websites get so many hits, while you struggle to get even 10 a day? I used to think about this all the time when I first started my website. I looked all over the internet for ideas to promote my website, and I found that they all had one major thing in common. They all required that you spend money! Now I don’t know about your, but I don’t have money to spend, so I continued searching for a way to get people to see what I had to offer and eventually I stumbled across a very powerful tool that consists of two words.

"MAILING LIST."

For those of you that are unfamiliar with this term, a mailing list is exactly what it sounds like. It is a list that allows you to add email addresses to it, and then to send the people on that list a message with the click of one button. This is a very powerful tool I’m sure you will agree.

There are many mailing list hosts on the internet where you can start your own mailing list for Free. I love these services, as seeing that they are free, they don’t try and sell you anything. Some of the better ones provide you with a way to build up your list to thousands of members in a few days. I have personally had great success with these types of services, and I can now communicate to thousands and thousands of people with the click of one button, and my list is growing everyday.

My advice to you would be to search for a unique mailing list, or to simply follow my lead and use the ones that I do listed below in my short biography.

The mailing list is an incredibly powerful tool that gives you a chance to communicate with thousands and thousands of people all at the click of a button. This number one marketing technique really should not be ignored.

You have permission to publish this article electronically or in print, free of charge, as long as the by-lines are included.

Concentrate On Web Content Instead Of Search Engine Optimization

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

For many webmasters the title of my article may seem like bad advice and contradict what most search engine experts say and advocate. However the proof is in the pudding. As a webmaster with 4 websites trust me when I tell you that I haven’t got a clue how to optimize my web pages in order to be on the first page for a particular search phrase. Instead I work on adding new content to my web sites. This technique has allowed me to consistently earn 4 figures a month in additional income and usually I start making money within 3 weeks of making my websites.

With Google doing its many algorithm changes on what seems like a daily basis and with MSN finally launching the search engine I feel compelled to just focus on adding quality content to my websites and finding beneficial link exchanges from other content rich websites. This allows me the opportunity to make my website bigger with more information and yes, keyword rich pages, which eventually do make it into the search engines on their own.

My favorite way to add quality back links to my website involves using articles. Normally I write between 2 or 3 articles a night which I then submit to article directories. My signature block contains the links back to website. Every article directory that publishes an article that I have written usually generates a link back to my site. It gets even better when other webmasters use my articles as content for their websites since it generates another link back to my own site.

Since I don’t try to rank in the top 10 for any particular search term through search engine optimization the technique of adding more web pages and articles is even more crucial to my success then perhaps to other webmasters. Additionally I don’t set my sites on having a website that earns $5000 or $10,000 a month. Instead I focus on making many different websites with the hope of them making between $500 and $1000 a month within 6 months. I’d rather have 10 websites making me a consistent $500 or $1000 a month instead of one heavy money maker just in case that particular website stops generating income.

My technique isn’t rocket science but it does make me money. So there’s no confusion the main technique I use to make money with my websites very quickly and easily is by adding quality content instead of focusing on search engine placement or optimization. I do this by spending 2 hours a night making new web pages, writing articles and looking for link exchange partners. This technique has worked wonders for my bank account and I’m confident it can do the same for yours.

The Hottest Tip On Getting A Web Site Listed Quickly by Yahoo, Inktomi, MSN, FAST and AltaVista

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Every webmaster knows that the free search engines are a major source of traffic.

They also know that applying all the SEO techniques in the world will not in itself get their web pages spidered, indexed and listed. Yes, sure, a “perfect” page, once indexed and listed will surely rank high for its keywords but unless it is found by the spiders, it is pretty useless.

It is no secret that the process of a web page being found by the spiders can be helped by placing links to that web site on other web sites (e.g. by doing a links exchange with other web sites, by putting one’s URL in one’s signature file when posting on a forum, by writing and submitting articles for free distribution and placing one’s URL in the author’s resource block etc.) All of this will surely work but it can take months before anything happens. The webmaster has no option but to be patient and wait…and wait…and wait.

Now there is something very easy and very effective one can do to speed up this process. Actually, using this method, will get a web page indexed and listed in less than 48 hours. And the whole process is controlled by the webmaster. It is easy, fast in terms of setting it all up and what’s more it is free!

Here is what one does:

  • Go to http://www.blogger.com and sign up for a new account (free – they even host the blog on their server at no cost)
  • Give your blog a name.
  • Navigate to ‘Settings’ and then choose ‘Site Feed’
  • Check that the ‘Publish Site Feed’ option is set to ‘Yes’
  • Copy the ‘Site Feed URL’ to the clip board (you can paste is some where .. you’re going to use it when you’ve set up your my.yahoo account)
  • Save your changes
  • Navigate to ‘Posting’ and create your first entry.
  • What should you write? Anything, actually – your words do not make that much of a difference. What is important is that you add the URL of each page you want listed to the blog. Remember to add them as live links (to enable all the spiders to follow them!)

Mmm, you don’t know how to do a live link? Here is an example. Just copy the HTML code

    link to Perfect Party Ideas

Replace the URL with your URL and the description (“link to Perfect Party Ideas” with your own.

As a suggestion, why not make your blog a log of this experiment?

  • Publish your blog by hitting the ‘Publish’ button.
Sorry, we’re not done yet…
  • Now you have to go to http://www.yahoo.com and open a My Yahoo! account. Just follow Yahoo’s very clear instructions.
  • Click on the ‘Add Content’ button.
  • Click the ‘ Add RSS by URL’ link.
  • Paste the ‘Site Feed URL’ you’ve copied earlier in the ‘URL’ field and
  • hit ‘Add’
You have just added your site’s news feed to your My Yahoo! account.

Mmm, you don’t know what a news feed is? I’ve written a document explaining it all. You can read it here.

  • Last step: go to http://www.pingomatic.com
  • Enter your blog’s name and URL (similar to mine: http://www.perfect-party-ideas.blogspot.com)
  • Select all the services to ping (of which My Yahoo! is one) and click the ‘Submit Pings’ button.
  • Navigate back to your My Yahoo! account and refresh your browser.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page where you’ll see your blog’s feed appearing.
Your job is done – the spider bait is ready!

Now for a bit of excitement. Start watching your web site’s stat’s to see how quickly the spiders find their way to your web site. You could even throw a free stats counter on your blog and watch the spiders visiting your blog.

Next step: Play “blog-and-ping” every day or so. More often if you have the time! Whenever you feel like it, add another posting to your blog. Remember to throw in some links to specific pages on your web site.

Let me know how successful you were – leave a comment in my blog or use my Contact Us page on my web site.

Here’s to your success!

Kind Regards
Anne-Marie

A Web Site for Your Small Business: How to Set Up a Website

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Your web site will be your window to the world. Even if you are not selling any product online still you need your customers to access you 24 hours a day 365 days in a year and you can pass important information to them by hosting frequently asked pages, product descriptions, product improvements etc. Your web site will be your office or interface to the world even when you are away in weekends, sleeping at nights or in an important assignment for your next business expansion. Then how to go about it? We will discuss some basic points here.

Your domain name:
This will be your first step in this direction. Go to www.namecheap.com or www.godaddy.com to book a domain name. Names are not that easy to get so try to get a combination of names best saying about your business or your brand name. If you have a brand name then it is a good idea to book other extensions like .net, .org and other extensions. This way you can prevent cyber squatters from using your brand names.

Your hosting Plan:
To host your website you need some web space. Market is crowed with hosting companies offering you different packages. The price is paid per month basis and rate varies with service and requirements. If you are not comfortable with all the technical terms like bandwidth, GB space, email etc then contact your web designer or the web programmer to handle the issue. Or go for the lowest one and based on the requirements you can ask for extra facility. Any time you can change your hosting provider if you are not happy with them. To start with you can spend less than $5 per month for hosting. If you have plan to store your customer details, newsletter management, member login etc then you will require database support.

Designing your site:
Engage a designer or web developer for your web site. Design of your site will depend on type of business you are. Avoid using graphics heavy animations or images in your site. Keep good content relevant to your business for getting good traffic from search engines. Search engines and particularly google loves good content so content with matching keywords of your business will drive more traffic and customers to your website. Keep a plan to improve or update your web site periodically.

Promote your Site:
Once your site is ready try for both online and offline promotions. Give a good press release; post your sites for review in popular web developer forums, submit your site to directory relevant to your area of business. Try to get some content specific keyword rich back links from different websites by contributing articles, participating in discussion boards etc. Better to have email address like support@mysitename.com than having support_1108@hotmail.com. This way you will be promoting your site brand name and inviting others to explore your site. You can print your site name in your visiting card, your letter pad and in other promotion materials like caps, T shirts etc. Finally this is not an one time job so keep an improvement or expansion plan for your website based on your business needs. There is no single magic formula to have one successful website but it is not difficult with good content integrated with your business plan and with user-friendly features.

How are Directories Different from Search Engines?

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Directories are important to your ranking and success with Search Engines. In a nutshell, search engines are completely automated and usually there is no need to submit. Directories all have human editors who review your site and you do have to submit to them to be listed. But you must submit the right way or you are wasting your time.

If you think getting listed in search engines is slow, try directories. Getting listed in directories takes time but it is well worth it.

One of the good things about getting listed in directories is that Google puts a LOT of weight on sites that are listed in directories. DMOZ is the most important one to Google (and therefore should be the most important one to you).

Junk sites can get listed in the search engines, but try getting a junk site past one of the human directory editors. You can’t even get useful sites that are poorly designed past the “eagle eyed” directory editors. Maybe that’s why Google puts so much weight on sites that have achieved the status of being listed in directories.

There are a LOT of directories, but there are only a few that you should bother with now.

Here are the major directories

www.DMOZ.org — Free. Submit to DMOZ first. (DMOZ is also called “Open Directory Project” on their website). They take a LONG time to get your site listed, but do NOT resubmit or your site will go back to the bottom of the stack. To find out about the status of your site getting listed go to www.Resource-Zone.com and ask questions in the discussion forum directly to the DMOZ editors.

www.Gimpsy.com — Free or pay $20 for 72 hr. inclusion and higher ranking for 90 days.

www.JoeAnt.com — Pay $39.99 or become an editor and it’s free. All editor applications are automatically approved. I suggest you become an editor. You’ll learn a lot.

www.GoGuides.org — Pay $39.99 or become a “guide” (same as editor for other Directories) and it’s free.

www.Business.com — $99 a year, but well worth it if you sell your products to businesses. You’ll get a lot of interested and qualified traffic.

www.Yahoo.com — Yahoo is no longer worth the $299 a year fee in my opinion. Skip this one.

Here’s how to get listed in these major directories. Of course, you have to submit your URL to the directory to get listed, but before you do that consider the following steps: Don’t jump the gun and submit a site that is under construction.

Make sure your site is well designed, easy to use, has useful content, no spam, no tricks, no broken links, etc. A human editor is in charge of “widgets” and she wants all of the sites in her widgets section of the directory to be useful to the directory visitors.

By all means spend a LOT of time reading the instruction of each directory before you submit. Don’t rush to submit your site until you understand what the directory is looking for and how they want you to do it.

Your directory title and description are very important to getting your site listed in the directory. They are also important after you’re listed. Your title and description are what potential visitors to your site will see in the directory listings.

Here are some tips for writing your title and description for directories.

Do NOT use any marketing hype (Never use words like “best”). Stick to the facts. Be descriptive. Choose your most importnant keyword phrase, but don’t try to stuff a lot of keywords in your title and description. Tricks will kill your chances of getting listed. The human editor has to like you and your site before your site will get listed. So follow the rules!

The most important thing to do is to submit your site in the right category. Drill down to the most specific category you can. Look at your competitors. What category are they in? Look at the sites that are in the category you choose. Look at their titles and descriptions.

You want to follow these examples, but you don’t want to be exactly like these sites. Directories don’t want sites that contain basically identical information to what’s already in the directory.

As soon as your site is completed submit it to DMOZ and get the clock to start ticking. A listing in DMOZ will automatically get you listed in the Google search engine and in the Google directory.

Of course, you can get listed in the Google search engine much quicker by having incoming links from other sites, so don’t wait on DMOZ to get you listed in the Google Search Engine. Do depend on it to get you listed in the Google Directory.

A lot of people say they don’t want to spend the effort trying to get listed in the directories because it could take three months. (I’ve seen it get done in one month, but sometimes it has taken six months.) I know people who said this over a year ago. They could have had a much higher PageRank and a LOT more free traffic by now if they had spent a few hours back then submitting their sites to the directories.

Some people make things happen. Some people watch things happen and some people wonder what happened. You have to make things happen if you want to get high rankings in the search engines.

Craige Stacey has been studying search engines optimization as a hobby and has achieved some very good search engine positions in the past for membership software

Intranet Project ? RAD or Waterfall?

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Building Bridges

I have often used the analogy of building a bridge to explain to business colleagues the difference between Rapid Application Development (RAD) and Waterfall.

Let’s say that we are in the middle ages and the Mayor of Kingston-upon-Thames is evaluating whether or not to build a bridge over the river to the north side, to replace the current ferry. The whole area has been growing rapidly and a bridge at Kingston should give his town a lead against competing local towns like Ham and Richmond (who also have their own ferries).

However, building a bridge presents problems. Firstly, the bedrock north and south of the river are very different. Secondly, the river is still tidal at this point and its path continues to vary across the floodplain. Finally ? and perhaps most importantly ? there is no guarantee that the projected growth in cross-river traffic will indeed materialise ? or that people will wish to cross at this precise point, rather than further up, or down, river. A new bridge could prove an expensive white elephant and divert much-needed town resources away from other projects. The increased local taxes required could also scare the very businesses he is hoping to attract away to other local towns.

Option 1 – Waterfall

Waterfall, as a methodology, is all about building reliable systems. At each stage of the lifecycle, the results are correct. The Mayor’s engineer believes that – when building a bridge – the result needs to be safe, sound and capable of lasting for decades. He recommends a design phase, which includes thoroughly testing the bedrock by driving piles and developing ways to limit the future variance of the river’s course. During the build phase, the bridge would be tested to ensure it can take the loads that will be placed upon it and to deal with high winds or flood conditions. The engineer confirms that each stage would only start once the previous stage had been proved correct beyond reasonable doubt. The stone bridge will take five whole years to build (with a high upfront cost commitment). If the project were ever stopped, the value tied up in phases to date would be lost. The engineer reminds the Mayor that a collapsed bridge would not help his place in history!

Option 2 – RAD

RAD, as a methodology is all about building relevant systems. The argument runs that it is better to be there quickly with 80% of the functionality in 20% of the time, so as to take full advantage of the business opportunity. The Mayor’s political advisors recommend the RAD option; to lay a pontoon bridge first alongside the existing ferry. This can be achieved in just three months, using a series of boats with a makeshift road surface and swing bridge lock for river vessels to navigate. The pontoon bridge allows the business model to be tested very quickly; If the expected benefits materialise, then further iterations of the bridge can be constructed later on. Sounds good, but of course (overall) the costs will be higher than waterfall if a full, stone bridge is ultimately required. In the meantime, if the river changes course, or floods impact the area, then the pontoon bridge will be washed away. His chief advisor reminds him that a bridge five years from now would not help his re-election prospects two years hence!

The Mayor’s selected option

Hmm. Interesting, isn’t it. Not a clear-cut decision. There are good arguments for either approach. The Mayor’s decision will ultimately depend on (a) how sure he is of his own vision, (b) his financial and time constraints and (c) how changeable these factors are likely to be over time. In short, he has a trade-off decision of relevance vs. reliability.

Turning the analogy onto Intranet Projects

In the Development Methodology chapter of my (free to access) Intranet Portal Guide, I explore these concepts in a bit more depth.

However ? put simply ? the answer for you will depend largely on how sure you are of your vision, the support of stakeholders, the availability of resources and the degree of change in your organisation and it’s requirements.

If you are operating in a stable business environment and are well funded and supported, then waterfall offers real benefits. You could establish an Intranet Portal that is well founded, scalable and secure. If not, then RAD could offer you the means to make some progress now at low cost and use the results of your early work to build a stronger case for future investment. It also allows you to vary the approach ? or begin again ? should circumstances or requirements change.

Most Intranet evangelists will find themselves perhaps in a mixed situation, where there is support and funding but there is also the risk of rapid changes to the underlying business environment and requirements. Here, I would recommend a mixed approach: Use a waterfall project to establish the underlying portal infrastructure (as this platform will be the bedrock on which you will build and needs to stand the test of time). Then use a RAD method to build the content and applications (developing solutions that are timely and relevant to businesses operating in a fast-moving and competitive environment).

Let’s face it; the Internet is cluttered with all sorts of guides about increasing traffic to your web site. Unfortunately, most of these guides are outdated or incomplete. In fact, many of the techniques being touted in them will get you in serious trouble. Wouldn’t you like to build up quality traffic that will stand the test of time? The key phrase is "test of time". You don’t want to be a flash in the pan.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Before you rush out to tell the world that your brand new web site is open for business, set it up properly. Do not even start to think about traffic if your web site still has broken links, empty content, and other unfinished business. While patience can be a hard thing to control, having some will pay off later. Once your web site is completely operational from top to bottom, you are ready to flood it with traffic.

SEARCH ENGINES

While there are many web sites out there which claim to be search engines, you only need to be concerned with a few of the major ones like Google, MSN, etc. You do not need to submit your web site to these engines-they will find you on their own once your web site is being linked from other web sites. Never pay for a service or software that does this function because it will be a complete waste of money. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to sell you a product or lacks real experience on the matter. The goal is to get your web site linked on other related web sites, which will cause the search engines to index your web site and visit somewhat often to look for changes.

DIRECTORIES

Your first step to building a solid traffic foundation is to submit your site to good directories. Doing so will increase your incoming links, page rank and traffic. Many directories charge a fee for a listing-most are one-time fees. Following is a breakdown of some of the more important directories to get listed in.

The ODP (Dmoz.org)

Submission to this directory is free and it is one of the best to be listed in. It is extremely important that you read their guidelines. All submissions are reviewed by an editor and the approval process can take weeks to months. Many web site owners have waited a long time before having their web site added. It is worth the wait.

Yahoo.com

Adding your web site to this very popular directory will cost $299 annually. Because of the price, you will want to think about this one. Experiences with Yahoo listings are on both sides of the aisle. The best thing to do is see where your web site will most likely be listed and evaluate the conditions for that section.

sbd.Bcentral.com

This is Microsoft’s business directory and it will be a solid listing for you. The current listing fee is $50, which includes the use of their web site tuning service. This service will evaluate your pages and let you know if the page is ready to submit or contains errors such as under-optimization and spam alerts. It can help you optimize your pages for the keyword phrases you are interested in.

SevenSeek.com

This directory has a great page rank and many back links. As will all directory submissions, pay attention to the guidelines. The fee for submission is $40. Seven Seek is a general directory so just about any web site will fit here.

GoGuides.org

Go Guides is another great directory to get your web site into. Their web site is crawled by all the bots daily, which is a great plus. Submission is $40 for this general directory.

Wowdirectory.com

Wow Directory is a large general themed directory. Web site submissions are free but approval can take some time. They offer an express submit for $20 that will ensure your web site is listed within 24 hours.

There are many more directories out there but these are some solid ones to get into first. In time, your web site will begin to appear in the major search engines. Most directories that charge for submission have adopted the policy started by Yahoo where the fee is for "review" only. It is absolutely vital that you read over all the guidelines to be certain that your web site will be accepted.

ARTICLES

A great way to generate traffic and back links to your web site is by writing articles. Here is the general process of how it works:

  • You craft a great article.
  • You submit that article to web sites geared towards web site owners needing content.
  • Owners grab your article, which contains a link to your web site, and use it on their web site.

As you can see, the process is very simple. When other web site owners place your article on their web site, you will be generating incoming links all over the Internet with no work at all. This will not only lead to possible traffic but help to establish the value of your web site to the search engines-so better rankings.

It is very important that your article is written well. If not, quality web site owners are much less likely to use your article and it makes you look bad. Most web site owners skip this important step in traffic building because they can not craft effective articles. If this is you, do something about it-visit Jason A. Martin right now and click on the "Articles for your web site" link. For a small fee, articles can be generated for you-and you retain full rights. Once received, simply slap your name on it and submit to places like Ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, etc.

This is perhaps one of the most important steps of all and after your article is written, it takes no work. The results can be extremely fast. Many articles out there are not crafted well so it is important to not formulate your writing style and perception blindly on the work of others. While many web sites that offer articles claim to "edit" them, it is more of a casual edit.

TEXT LINKS

The goal here is to increase the number of links from related web sites. For example, if your web site is about hot dogs, you will want to obtain links from web sites that are about such topics as: hot dogs, eating, hot dog buns, hot dog toppings, hot dog contests, etc. Obtaining a link from Joe’s Engine Parts will not help much and may actually hurt in regards to search engine rankings.

After thinking up words and phrases that are related to your main topic, visit your favorite search engine and search for those items. Visit the web sites that come up and try to get your link on them. Some might exchange a link with you, some might offer a link on their web site in exchange for payment, and some might simply say no. Keep at it.

IN THE END

By completing these tasks, your web site will have established a solid foundation that will withstand changes the future holds. I invite you to read about ways to promote your web site, improve ad copy, and much more by visiting Internet Business Entrepreneur. Remember to always keep a sense of pride about your web site. Resist the temptations to do actions which will hurt your web site and build it with the future in mind.
