Website Sales: 10 Super-Charged Tactics To Spark Up Your Sales

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

If your website sales are down and you desire to spark it up, here the secrets to do so:

1. Spend money on targeted advertising instead of mass media advertising. You don’t want to waste your ad dollars on people who aren’t interested.

2. Increase your profits by concentrating on small details. Improving small things like text size, color, or graphics can really make a positive difference.

3. Keep your offers flexible. If you offer a set price for your product, you could offer the people that can’t afford it an optional payment plan.

4. Offer your knowledge or consulting as a bonus product. You could offer a free 15 or 30 minute consultation. This will add value to your product.

5. Personalize all your e-mail messages so they get read. Include the recipient’s name in the subject line. This will grab peoples attention quickly.

6. Keep your web site consistent. You don’t want to keep things on your web site that are unrelated to the theme of your web site.

7. Attract more subscribers to your free e-zine by giving them free bonuses like e-books, software, online services and other incentives.

8. Sell advertising space in your e-zine and on your web site. This will create an extra income stream for your business.

9. Make your web site ready for the public. Have an “About Us” page and clear descriptions of what actions you want your visitors to take.

10. Don’t just start advertising everywhere, plan out your marketing. Locate places and publications that your target audience would congregate around.

May these website sales secrets help you to make a lot of money and succeed.

12 Essential Tips to a Professional Business Website

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

1. Choose a big enough font size. A size 12 is good for easy readability.

2. Maintain a consistent look on your pages. Use the same fonts, navigation bar, general layout, colour scheme, etc. You want to create a "congruous" experience for your visitor by being consistent.

3. Break the content of your landing webpage into more than one table. Many make the mistake of putting all their content into one table. This may take forever to load.

Try putting just your headlines into a separate table right on the top, with the rest of your content in a second table that follows. So when your visitor arrives on the landing page, the table with the headlines will come on first.

Note that this trick does not reduce the size of your file as a whole or make your entire sales content load faster. It just creates the illusion of this happening. Your visitor can at least take a couple of seconds to read the first table of headlines while the second content-rich table loads. After scanning through the top headlines, the second table is ready for him or her to continue reading.

4. It is preferable to have a white or light coloured background. Black text on such a background stands out better.

5. Have lots of white space on your sales letter. Don’t clutter up your page with too much information and images. You want your pages to go easy on the eyes.

6. Do not have too many unnecessary graphics on your website. This is especially if their file sizes are too big. You don’t want to risk losing a potential but impatient visitor to your website. Use image attributes, like alternate tags as well as width and height, to help resolve this issue.

7. Don’t "bold" large chunks of your text. Bold and italic should be used for highlighting and for drawing special attention.

8. Do not underline text that does not point to a link. It can be misleading to your visitor who may wonder why the link is broken or not working.

9. Use the standard blue underlined link look. Avoid changing the link colour. Don’t introduce confusion to your online visitors!

10. It is useful to include links back to your home page on all your pages. Your first time visitor may have arrived at one of your sub-pages, other than your home page. Make it easy for them to link back to your all important sales page (home page).

11. Always check to ensure that you have no broken or outdated links. Get your friends to feedback to you when they should discover any one of these and make amendments immediately.

12. Don’t put "under construction" signs on a page. If it’s not finished, do not publicise it or make it accessible.

Submitting Your Website With Web Promotion Services

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Once you have built and uploaded your home business website the next step is to start promoting it both offline and online. Offline methods include putting your web address on your business cards, stationary, brochures, flyers, pamplets, home sign, automobile or whatever literature you can. Online methods generally start with submitting your home business website to search engines and directories.

For those of you who either have a website now or are planning to have one in the future, you will obviously want your website to be found in these search engines and directories.

You will therefore have to at some point decide whether you want to submit your site to each individual engine and directory manually, pay a submission service to do it for you, buy site submission software, or use one of the free submission services on the internet.

Submitting to each individual search engine and directory manually is quite easy to do but can be somewhat time consuming. To do this, you simply visit each site individually and look for the “Add URL” or “add a website” link which is usually located at the very top or bottom of each site. Then just click the button and add your URL. In some cases you will have to add a title, description and possibly other information. For the directories such as Yahoo and Open Directory Project, also known as DMOZ, you will be required to visit the relevant category first. Be careful to choose the right category. If you pay a submission service to do this for you they can save you a lot of time and will usually do a slightly better job with the keywords and descriptions based on their know-how. If you choose to do it yourself, a good place to start is directoryguide dot com and searchenginecolossus dot com.

Another method is to buy software such as Submit Wolf. If you are only promoting a single site, I do not recommend purchasing this software because it is rather expensive and time consuming for a novice to learn. If you have an older computer this software will chew up a lot of resources while it is running and slow down your computer performance. On the plus side it does submit to a rather large number of sites. This can boost your page rank or popularity. That leaves us with the freebie submission services that exist around the net. There are number of them available, and they vary in quality. The way it works is you fill out one form and the service submits that information to all the engines on it’s list. I do not recommend using them if your whole business is built around your site, but for many sites they are adequate.

The problem is that some search engines block these automated submissions automatically(they want you to personally visit their site), and they are ineffective for most directories which require that you navigate to the pertinent category first. Also, each engine allows a differing amount of keywords and requires different types of information. Some of the more popular services include submitexpress.com, which will submit your site to 40 search engines for free, addme.com which will submit your site to Google, Subjex, Alexa, Scrub The Web, FAST Search AllTheWeb, LookSeek, ExactSeek, Jayde, and a few others for free, addpro.com submits to 20+ top search engines using an automatic service that is easy to use, and quickregister.net which will submit your site to the major engines and directories if you put a small text link on your site.

If you go to ez2www.com there is a freebie site submission service there if you click “add url” at the bottom of the page. There are other free submission sites out there. Just go to your favorite search engine and type in “free search engine submission” and you will be presented with a list of such freebies.

How to Create Sizzling Sales online

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

“Don’t Sell the Steak, Sell the Sizzle.”

Have you heard of this phrase before? It has been widely regarded as "principle number one of salesmanship" as far back as 1936.

What does this phrase mean? Selling the sizzle means making it possible for the prospect to salivate for your product or "steak". If you are really selling the sizzle to the steak, you will be connecting with your prospect with his/her sense of smell, sight and sound. He or she will be catching the whiff of the steak cooking on the barbeque pit, see the steak oozing in juice and hear the sizzle on the pit!

This concept makes perfect sense if you want to experience fantastic sales. So if you are an internet marketer, how do you write your online ad copy or sales letter such that you can connect with your prospects’ senses? Here is a "buffet" of 10 tips on how you can sell the sizzle:

1. Let your enthusiasm show.

Be enthusiastic and positive in your sales copy. People are attracted to a sales letter that is upbeat and captivating.

2. Show your expert status.

Spell out to your prospects about how their problems can be solved through your expert advice. You should offer great value and make the customer feel that he is well taken care of, in your charge

3. Your attitude determines your altitude.

Have a good attitude by encouraging feedback and questions and answering your emails as quickly as you can. People generally want to know how much you care before they start doing business with you.

4. Have A Killer Headline.

Use killer headlines to tease and to attract your prospect to read your entire sales copy. An example of a great headline "How I made a $15,886 mistake" as it creates curiosity about the story that you are about to reveal.

5. Use the Power of Bullets.

Your sales copy should not just be a laundry list of features. Use as many bulleted points as you can to show the long list of benefits that your prospect can derive by buying your product or service.

6. Use the "feel, felt, found" method.

Handle objections with this method. It works! First, show empathy on how your prospect feels. Then, say how you or your other customers felt the same way. And then, how you or your customers found the answer to their problems by buying your product or service.

7. A picture speaks a thousand words.

Use images that help your prospect visualize about what you are selling. Sell the sizzle! A simple example to illustrate this point is to create stunning covers for your information product. The cover of my newsletter "Mapping You to Success" viewed at http://www.e-BizMap.com certainly looks yummy and easy to digest!

8. Testimonials sell!

Get testimonials from credible sources. Wouldn’t a prospect feel more tempted if your product or service is also used by some top names or gurus?

9. Go big on bonuses.

Use bonuses that have high perceived value. Value is created when the bonus is relevant to the needs of the prospect. To create the impression of high perceived value, spend some time explaining and telling your prospects what each bonus is, its worth and the "succulent" benefits they can derive.

10. Give a lifetime guarantee.

Give a guarantee that lasts forever! Make your offer as risk free as possible.

Now how do you beat the "buffet" of tips given above? Perfect your recipe for writing great copy and see your sales sizzle to the top!

Consumer Thinking and Email

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

In an article based on research done by emaillabs, MarketingSherpa reports that on average, readers spend between 15-20 seconds reading email they chose to open.

The article also reports, readers span about 50 words, fewer if there are graphics to view.

It appears to me, the online consumer is becoming more sophisticated in their online behavior. This information indicates to me that online consumers are no longer tolerant of long-winded, fluffy email sales letters or sales letters disguised as newsletters.

I believe the online consumer is becoming much more discriminating concerning what they open and read in their email boxes. Remember, online consumers, on average are seeking information when they are online and they don’t like blatant selling.

One can assume, with some safety that when a consumer opens email they are doing so with some level of expectation; they have a goal and a motive for going online. Everything that is incongruent with the consumer’s goal and motive is probably going to get filtered and deleted.

Email is used by consumers primarily to communicate. Its secondary purpose is to receive news, product information, ezine information, etc. Many people like the convenience of ordering competing product information and reviewing it via email delivery.

Thus, you should ask yourself, "Is what I’m sending my email list going to fit into their reason for being on line and subscribing to my offering?" Consumers aren’t going to read your ezine if it’s a low budget incognito sales offering if they subscribed to and are expecting an information rich, article based offering.

In application, this means that your email offerings should be tightly focused and obvious in content. Online consumers don’t like cutesy or vague, it wastes their time.

You should also make sure you’re sending emails that are congruent with your recipient’s expectations. For example, I advertise my ezine as "the most value-laden ezine on the net", which means when people subscribe to it they are expecting valuable content, that is relevant. If I send them a bunch of fluffed up sales letters there’s going to be a lot of unsubscribing.

Third, you should get rid of your graphics with the possible exception of your brand impacting logo. You want recipients to be reading your content not wasting their 20 seconds of scan time on graphics they may consider irrelevant, although there are some exceptions to this suggestion.

The final suggestion is to add an audio component to your ezine when you are able. Research suggests that people learn primarily through hearing with the visuals as supporting aspects in the learning process. Thus, with an audio component you can tell your recipient what’s important in your offering and why. Perhaps, you’ll run down the table of contents or narrate highlights from your primary article. All of this can be done within about 20 seconds and research also indicates that listeners tend to retain audio information if it is spoken abit faster than normal.

In summary, understand who is receiving your emails and why they are receiving them. The information needs to be congruent with their expectations if it’s to be opened and have impact.

Remember, online consumers are becoming very discriminating in their evaluation of content as well as being very pressed for time. They’ll delete in a moments notice if they believe reading your offering is not worth 20 seconds of their time.

Hosting Options for an Ecommerce Web Site

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Deciding how to host your ecommerce Web site and what approach to take can be daunting. There are several approaches available, each with different advantages and disadvantages.

Storefronts

If you have a small business, you may want to consider a storefront or an online mall. For a fee, these services help you build a small Web site to sell your products. These “site in a box” Web site services include everything you need to sell online.

Features and support vary by program and can include options such as search engine placement, credit card processing, and advertising. These tend to be template services, however, with less flexibility than a custom site. Familiarize yourself with the current offerings in this area before making a final decision.

Custom Sites

If you have a business that is too large for or has outgrown the smaller storefront services, you may want to consider the more costly – but also more flexible – custom site. For the added cost you can have a unique site, receive greater support, and handle more traffic. You have the options of hiring the same company to design and host your site or using separate design and hosting services.

Hiring the same company to design and host your site.

This option involves the fewest logistics, but may come with trade-offs in design quality or host reliability. Be aware that designing and hosting require different sets of skills and expertise. When choosing a service, evaluate their experience and ask for references in both areas. Go to sites the company has designed and navigate them. Note how the sites look, how easy they are to understand, and how quickly they load into your browser.

To evaluate the company’s hosting service, contact current customers and ask how pleased they are with the service. Find out how often the server is down and ask about help desk responsiveness. Also, consider how your site will be updated. Can you upload changes directly or do you have to wait for someone at the hosting company to get to it? If it is the latter, ask current customers about their experience with this process.

If you are still considering the design/hosting service after studying their design capabilities and talking to their current customers, you may also want to find out if there has been recent turnover in key personnel. An individual designer, coordinator, or account manager can make a large difference in support or design quality.

Using a separate design and hosting service.

By separating the design and hosting, you have more choices. Thus, you can have more control over both your budget and your site. Technical incompatibilities are a risk when taking this approach, however. Be sure your designer is familiar with your hosting service and it’s technical capabilities. To help facilitate information flow and minimize technical problems:

Choose a short list of hosts with both the ecommerce capabilities you require and that pass “reliability” tests. Read “Don’t Make These Hosting Mistakes”, http://www.take-payments-online.com/ECommerceWebHosting.html , for questions to ask and other mistakes to avoid.

Find a Web designer experienced in ecommerce applications. Together, decide on the hosting service and ecommerce systems you will use.

Making the Decision

Deciding upon the right combination will take some research. One way to gather a list of hosting options is to first find ecommerce sites that you like and/or have ecommerce abilities similar to your needs, then ask about the sites’ hosting and ecommerce providers.

Asking for referrals from business acquaintances is another. Many times, people are more than happy to share their positive experiences. For example, I use five different hosts and am generally pleased with all of them. When asked about hosting, however, I always recommend Lexiconn.com (my WebSiteMarketingPlan.com site host) because of the exceptional help desk service and support documentation.

Another way to develop hosting options is to look for online advertisements. The sponsored search engine ads and advertisements directly on Web sites are two places you can find these. While there’s no guarantee all of the companies you find will be high quality, the willingness to pay for ads can be an indication of commitment.

Diligently decide upon ecommerce features and choose a host with those features in mind. By doing so, you are creating a smoother path to ecommerce success.

How To Find Good Keywords

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Good keywords are frequently searched for (high demand) but not being targeted by many other websites (low competition). There are a number of tools out there that can help you find them.

Wordtracker

The best tool out there, Wordtracker is one of the most essential SEO tools. To use Wordtracker:

- Go to the Wordtracker website (http://www.wordtracker.com)and pay $7 for 24 hours’ access

- Enter a keyword phrase you’re thinking about targeting

- Wordtracker will suggest hundreds of related phrases – click on the ones you like

- Once you’ve clicked on all the phrases you like, run them through the program

- Wordtracker will compile a score for each phrase, based on the number of users searching for it and the number of websites targeting it

- The higher the score, the better the keyword phrase!

Wordtracker also offers a free service which works in the same way but only uses results generated from MSN.

Overture

Also useful, Overture’s search term suggestion tool (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/), is free and much quicker to use than Wordtracker. It works in much the same way as Wordtracker but doesn’t tell you how many websites are targeting each keyword phrase.

Google

Google AdWords Keyword Suggestions (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox) tell you which keyword phrases are being targeted by other websites.

Guidebeam

Guidebeam (http://www.guidebeam.com) is an interesting resource. Type in a phrase and it will suggest a large number of related searches. The numbers provided for each phrase are Guidebeam’s estimation of how relevant that phrase is.

Give People What They Want And Watch Your Profits Soar!

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Do you know why the majority of people use the Internet?

The majority of people use the Internet to do some type of research. In other words, to read.

Now, how can you use this knowledge to your advantage?

Simple. Give people what they want! Provide plenty of good, quality, free content on your website and refresh it regularly.

What’s free content?

Well, free content can take on many forms, from e-books to free advice and everything in between. However, what I’m talking about is free content in the form of articles.

But they shouldn’t be just be any kind of articles. The articles should closely match the theme of your website. For example, if your website’s theme is about Internet marketing, then you would have articles relating to advertising and marketing.

If your website’s theme is about computers, then you would have articles relating to the service and maintenance of computers, and so on and so forth.

So, where do you get free articles?

Well, you could always write your own. It’s really not that difficult. However, if you find writing your own articles too daunting a task, there’s a million places on the Internet that can provide you with free content. Here are just a few:

Also, capture your visitors names and e-mail addresses. How? Start your own ezine or newsletter and ask your visitors to subscribe.

Since people rarely purchase anything the first time they visit a website, capturing their names and e-mail addresses will give you countless number of opportunities to keep your name and the name of your business fresh in your customers and prospects minds.

And don’t be afraid to have a fee-based ezine or newsletter. Remember, the true value of anything is in the eye of the beholder!

By giving before you take, you’ll put your visitors in a much better frame of mind to receive your offer.

Types of Keywords

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Keyword can be classified into three categories :

-Single word Keyword

-Multiple word Keyword

-Keywords based on Theme

Keyword(s) are basic raw material used in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Keyword selection or Keyword Research as it is called technically, where in we use special tools to find out a list of Keywords (search terms) searched by targeted audience, is one of the most important step in SEO. Keyword can be single word, two or three words, multiple words and theme based.

Lets detail each of these one by one . Understanding these categories of keywords would also help one to decide as to their targeting on specific pages.

Keyword of Single word

———————-

Keyword of Single word is used to target a large traffic but leads to highly competition category of sites. Keyword of Single word are known as generic Keyword(s) where we target general audience. Keyword of Single word does not help to target a specific page for a specific audience.

Instead single word keywords are good theme keywords.

We can use these primary keyword 5 to 7 times in a web page for good theming according of a site. The inside pages of the site can qualify these themes into product or service categories by adding qualifiers to these theming keywords.

Example:

Keyword "Services" will produce result of all the web sites related to Services which can be United States Department of Health and Human Services, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services, direct Services, online Services, offline Services, Indian Services, American Services, food Services, agricultural Services, business Services, free Services, paid Services, etc.

Keyword of Multiple words

Keyword of Multiple words is used to target a specific traffic, which leads to high sale, top position in search result listing as well as improves page rank competition. Keyword of Multiple words are known as Specific Keyword(s) where we target a specific audience & not general searcher. Keyword of Multiple words helps to target a specific page for a specific audience.

Keyword of Multiple words, more often than not are location specific and related to geographic area of your intended services or products.

Keywords based on Theme

———————–
